New YA Books

Lots of new YA books this week!
These are a few.

Dragon's Keep by Janet Lee Carey

Far away on Wilde island lives a princess born with a dragon claw. No one, save her mother, the queen, knows her terrible secret. And the queen has forced her to wear gloves at all times until a cure can be found. Rosalind is a princess, so she must be perfect -how else can she fulfill Merlin's six-hundred-year-old prophecy that will restore her banished royal family to its rightful throne?

Specials (Uglies, book 3) by Scott Westerfeld
Tally thought they were a rumor, but now she's one of them. A Special. A superamped fighting machine, engineered to keep the uglies down and the pretties stupid. But maybe being perfectly programmed with strength and focus isn't better than anything she's ever known. Tally still has memories of something else.

Epic by Conor Kostick
Generations ago, violence was banned on New Earth. Society is governed and conflicts are resolved in the arena of a fantasy computer game, Epic. Everyone plays, from teenagers to senior citzens. If you win, you have the chance to go to university, get more supplies for your community, and fulfill your dreams; if you lose, your life both in and out of the game is worth nothing. Eric seeks revenge for the unjust treatment of his parents, and dares to subvert the rules of Epic, he and his friends are drawn into a cutthroat, power, hungry world.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne
Soon to be a motion picture! If you start to read this book, you will go on a journey with a nine-year-old boy named Bruno (Though this isn't a book for nine-year-olds.) And sooner or later you will arrive with Bruno at a fence. Fences like this exist all over the world. We hope you never have to encounter one.

After the Wreck, I Picked Myself Up, Spread My Wings, and Flew Away by Joyce Carol Oates
Blaming herself for the car accident on the Tappan Zee Bridge that killed her mother, fifteen-year-old Jenna undergoes a difficult physical and emotional recovery. She seperates her life into two categories: before the wreck and after the wreck. Then Jenna meets Crow, and her life is once again turned upside down.

Between milking cows, mucking out the barn, and mowing clover, this erstwhile jock takes on training Brian, the rival high school's quarterback. Dairy Queen will appeal to girls who, like D.J., aren't girly-girls but just girls, learning to be comfortable in their own skins.

It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini
When Craig Gilner gets into Manhattan's exclusive Executive Pre-Professional High School, it's the culmination of a year of intense focus and grinding hard work. Now he has to actually attend the school with other equally high-performing students. Oops. And so the unraveling begins, with a depressed Craig spending more time smoking dope and throwing up than studying. Although medication helps his depression, he decides to stop taking it. Soon after, he makes another decision: to commit suicide. A call to a suicide hotline gets him into a psychiatric hospital, where he is finally able to face his demons.
